Apple Has Stopped Signing All Public Firmwares Except iOS 11.2.5, Here Are The Details

If you are willing to downgrade iOS 11.2.5 to iOS 11.2.2 or even iOS 11.2.1 / 11.2, you no longer can as Apple has stopped signing those older firmwares.

What this basically means is that iOS 11.2.5 is currently the only latest firmware which is being signed at the moment, with all previous iOS 11.2.x versions being stopped from signing, killing any downgrade or restore possibility to or on those firmwares in the process.

This could be significant in the context of a future jailbreak for iOS 11.2.x iPhone and iPad devices given that Zimperium zLabs Team recently announced that they are going to release multiple vulnerabilities for iOS 11.2.2 and below firmwares that could potentially lead to a jailbreak.

So if you downgraded in time when we told you about this possibility, good for you. Just stay on those iOS 11.2.2 or below firmwares. Of course, if you are on iOS 11.1.2 or below, there’s already a jailbreak available for it in the form of Electra and others.

For iOS 11.2.5 and later, currently there’s no sign of any public exploit or vulnerability that could lead us to a jailbreak. If you care about jailbreaking, you better stay away from iOS 11.2.5.

How To Jailbreak Apple TV 2G 5.0 (iOS 5.1) Using Seas0nPass On Windows And Mac

FireCore, the guys behind the Seas0nPass jailbreak tool have pushed out an update that provides a tethered jailbreak on the latest iOS 5.0 (iOS 5.1 – 9B179b) firmware. The update to the popular jailbreak tool currently only supports the second-generation Apple TV unit and therefore will not provide any jailbreak on the 1080p capable third-gen Apple TV. The tethered nature of this jailbreak obviously means that every time the unit needs to be rebooted, it will have to be connected to your PC or Mac to be put into a jailbroken state.

The current version, Seas0nPass 0.8.3, doesn’t support some of the more popular plugins such as XMBC, Plex or Remote HD but it seems that the developers are working hard on their compatibility. Media Player, nitoTV and things like Last.fm are supported, although we are pretty sure that non-functioning items will be updated by the authors in the coming weeks.

How to jailbreak Apple TV 2, iOS 5.0 (iOS 5.1 – 9B179b) using Seas0npass

Step 1: Make sure that the latest version of iTunes is installed on your computer (currently 10.6.1). If not, then simply head over to this link and download.

Step 2: Download the latest version of the Seas0nPass tool (Mac / Windows).

Step 3: Grab the Apple TV unit as well as the required micro USB cable and make sure that all additional iPhones, iPods or iPads are not connected to your PC or Mac via USB.

Step 4: Locate the downloaded Seas0nPass zip file and extract the contents.

Step 5: Launch Seas0nPass and select the ‘Create IPSW‘ option to begin the jailbreak process.

Step 6: The utility will download the latest Apple firmware for the device (iOS 5.0) and create a custom firmware for the restore process.

Step 7: Seas0nPass will produce an on-screen prompt that will require you to connect the Apple TV to the computer using the micro USB cable (do not connect the power cable).

Step 8: Using the supplied silver remote control, press the MENU and PLAY/PAUSE button together for seven seconds until the small light on the front of the Apple TV flashes rapidly.

Step 9: iTunes should recognize the device and automatically open and start the restore process using the custom firmware created in step 6.

Step 10: As per standard restore process, iTunes will confirm that the device has been restored, leaving you with a beautifully jailbroken Apple TV 2.

Because this version of Seas0nPass currently only provides a tethered jailbreak option for the latest firmware, every time the device needs to be rebooted; it will need to be connected to the computer to be booted into the jailbroken state.

Using Seas0nPass to achieve a tethered boot

Step 1: After the above restore process has been completed, the Apple TV unit must be disconnected from the computer for a brief second at least. Open up Seas0nPass and select the “Boot Tethered” option.

Step 2: When Seas0nPass gives the prompt, connect the Apple TV unit to your PC or Mac via the micro USB cable. When the rapid flashing light appears on the front of the device, connect the power cable before holding the MENU and the PLAY/PAUSE buttons together for seven seconds.

Step 3: The tethered boot process will be handled automatically by Seas0nPass. Once this process has completed, the power and USB cables can be removed and the Apple TV can be used normally as you would, at least until the next reboot is required when the process will need to be followed again.

So there you have it. A jailbreak solution for the second-generation Apple TV on the latest firmware – albeit a tethered one. One thing to remember is that timing is paramount to the success of this process. The Apple TV has no visual display like any iOS devices, so it can be difficult to tell when it is in the required state. If at first you don’t succeed, exercise some patience and try again. Good luck.

Redsn0w Jailbreak Tool For Windows And Mac Updated To v0.9.10b7

While the jailbreak loving world has been waiting patiently for the next iOS jailbreak, and have their eyes firmly fixed on any updated regarding it from Pod2g, the iPhone Dev Team have been hard at work as usual implementing additional features and updates to their popular Redsn0w jailbreak tool.

The Dev Team have pushed out the seventh beta of the current Redsn0w release, taking the tool to version 0.9.10b7, meaning that it now comes packed with an array of new features, as well as preliminary support for a very exciting new aspect of the tool, hopefully to come in the next release. The Dev Team have announced their intentions to include built-in support for firmware restores which will negate the need for users to restore their devices through Apple’s iTunes software, meaning that users will be able to handle all of their jailbroken needs from within one application.

The 0.9.10b7 release also brings with it the implementation of the Corona A5 jailbreak for the iPhone 4S and iPad 2, as long as they are running iOS 5.0.1. The Redsn0w improvements also includes the ability for users to re-install the aforementioned jailbreak for those who have managed to accidentally uninstall the untether. One of the biggest aspects of Redsn0w is the ability to stitch together a custom firmware bundle, which is an aspect that has also been improved upon with the new ability to grab saved blobs directly from Cydia.

Finally, the latest Redsn0w beta will now provide additional information about the connected device. The example used by the Dev Team relates to the iPhone 3G and 3GS, claiming that it will now display whether or not the 3G has a vulnerable baseband boot loader or whether the 3GS has an old exploitable bootrom. The updated Redsn0w is definitely good news for those A5 users who are sitting on iOS 5.0.1, but the big news has to be the planned restore feature that will hopefully come with the next Redsn0w release.

For the full official release notes, head on over to the Dev Team blog and read update number 2. Alternatively, you can download the latest Redsn0w for Mac and Windows from the links give at the end. When running the Windows version of the software, be sure to run it in Administrator mode to eradicate any issues.

Root Samsung Galaxy S II i9100 On Android 4.0.3 ICS [How-To]

A short while ago, we covered the steps for those looking to install Android 4.0.3 Ice Cream Sandwich on their UK and Australia Samsung Galaxy S II i9100 devices. Well now, we’re also going to describe how you can quickly root your device with its updated software. More details after the jump!

The Samsung Galaxy S II is one of the most popular devices on the planet, and has been one of the key advocates of Google’s mobile ecosystem. Since there are various different versions of the same device, the rollout of Ice Cream Sandwich hasn’t been the same for each of the 20+ million global consumers wielding Samsung’s flagship device, but steady progress is being made, it’s better than having no ICS at all, right?

Those running the Skyrocket SGH-i727 Galaxy S II, for example, have been able to update and root for nearly a month, while those using other variants are still waiting for signs of a leaked ROM.

Nevertheless, like jailbreaking an iOS device, rooting your Android opens the door to many possibilities you otherwise wouldn’t be able to experience. If you fancy freeing your device from the shackles of stock, then please read the following tutorial carefully.

DISCLAIMER: As usual, FindTutorial will not be held responsible if you lose data or your device gets damaged in the following of this guide. Proceed at your own risk.

Step 1: Download the required kernel for your Galaxy S II:

  • Base firmware I9100XWLP7 (UK, Eire): Download CF-Root v5.4 LP7
  • Base firmware I9100XWLP8 (Aus) Download CF-Root v5.4 LP7 (Works with LP8)

Step 2: Once downloaded, extract the .zip file. At this point, ensure your device is notconnected to your computer.

Step 3: Locate Odin (should be included in the CF-Root package), and launch it by double-clicking on the .exe.

Step 4: Next, press and hold Volume Up + Volume Down buttons while connecting your device to your PC, until you see a Download Mode screen.

Step 5: ODIN will detect your device.

Step 6: Click on PDA and select CF-Root-SGS2_*-v5.3-CWM5.tar (file downloaded in Step 1).

Step 7: Click Start.

And there you have it. Your newly-updated device is now rooted and ready for you to mod, tweak, and tailor to your specific needs!
